Casa Agricola Da Levada Eco Village

A very cool place. Rooms are fairly simple, but everything else is superb. Very friendly & personal service, from kind folks eager to show you the best of the area. THE best breakfast we had on our Portugal trip (which is saying a lot) - full of fresh goodies made, picked, and gathered right on the premises. A really neat honesty shop chockful of produce & other local goodies (try the cookies!) Best of all, the grounds are like a lush, tranquil oasis hidden away in the middle of town, complete with a river trail & an infinity pool. They also have charming, hand-drawn maps & booklets that make a perfect souvenir. Vila Real itself is pleasant enough - not really a tourist hotspot (yet?), but an excellent & affordable base for exploring the Douro region. There's also a beautiful, off the beaten path mountain park nearby just to the north. Highly recommended!

Exceptional experience- we are already planning our next stay. Delightful, helpful staff; gorgeous accommodations; location that offers the best of both worlds: a beautiful natural setting yet close to attractions in Vila Real. Guests can choose between the historic manor house and beautifully reconstructed cottages. Thoughtful amenities make guests feel welcome. Highly recommended.

What an incredible and special place to be. The owners have restored the land and historical buildings with much care and attention. Which they have carefully documented in a map in each room, where you will also find recommendations for the area which were lovely. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. The pools relaxing. In the mornings you get a fresh loaf of bread by your door. The river down below is magical and enchanting. Definitely a place where you will come out relaxed, dazzled and inspired. I just arrived here with my wife and it is such a special place. It is close to the city but feels like you are in the mountains. The gardens very well maintained and full of vegetables and fruit etc. Andreas checked us in and she gave us a slice of cake each because we were too tired to go to a restaurant… the cake was super tasty, not too sweet, just right and made with love. I adored this place and would highly recommend it as a base for exploring the Valley. Room: we stayed in the cottage with one room and a kitchen (the other couple in our party stayed in the cottage with two rooms and were equally happy). The cottage is truly huge, with a spacious bedroom and a huge living room/kitchen, and was very attractively furnished and decorated. The shower was large and had great water pressure and temperature, and there was an adequate supply of electrical outlets. Note: unbeknownst to us, the two-room cottage has two bathrooms and could easily have accommodated two couples. Grounds: simply beautiful. Raspberries, which we were free to pick, grew just outside our cottage. The Casa is eco-themed, and has a variety of crops and trees scattered throughout the grounds. Make sure to leave time for at least one walk around the gardens or down to the river. I need to address the issue raised in other reviews of road noise: yes, you can hear some background traffic, but for us it was a total non-issue. In a perfect world perhaps you would hear none, but it did not affect our stay at all. Staff: unfailingly cheerful and friendly (special mention to Angela, who was a delight to interact with). Food: breakfast seemed pricey, so we happily ate the fresh bread they hang outside of your door each morning (a winsome touch, and oh, that bread...), along with jam from their Honesty Shop. Gina's is a reasonable and convenient choice for dinner; most other restaurants will require a drive into town. One night we had their minced veal covilhetes and salad (kindly delivered to our room by Angela) and they were very good. Location: within easy striking distance of Pinhao, Regua and other key destinations in the Douro Valley. Perhaps not the best location if you don't have a car, but I would highly recommend one for exploring the area anyway. Overall, a great stay, and while you may find slightly cheaper places the value is outstanding.
